Thankful Thoughts

My friend, Danielle, over at Life, One Layout at a Time , has started a foundation that will sell cards, supporting a number of causes like St. Jude's, Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep, Autism Speaks, and A String of Pearls.

She's always looking for card donations (as well as cash donations)! If you're interested, pop on over to her blog and leave her a comment!

The card above is one of the cards I made to send to her (I made several).

It's funny, the evolution of this card.

Birth of the Card

I started this card as part of VSN over at SCS. For the die cut challenge. It didn't have near as much bling. Because the challenge was to formulate a design and produce it quickly.

Demonstrate Me Version

I am in a swap to make 12 total card fronts that show off and use some of the new Stampin Up In Colors and current products. One important feature (beyond using new In-Colors) was to make sure it was demonstrable. That's tricky, because it cannot be too complicated (for example, include sewing or lots of piercing). It needs to be easy enough to either demonstrate to folks OR have them make it as part of a workshop. At the same time (being easy), it has to make people think..."WOW...that's really pretty." And "I could do that!" While I was making the card for the VSN challenge, I decided to make sure it would work for this swap. I wished I could put the little clips on all the cards for the swap, but alas, I don't have enough. I chose a little different embellishing.

I have the recipe for this card (for once...I'm not usually organized enough for that)

Stamp Sets: Grateful Greetings (Upcoming Holiday Mini), Eastern Blooms
Card Stock: More Mustard, Soft Suede, Rich Razzleberry, Bermuda Bay
Ink: Soft Suede, Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry
Accessories: Vintage Brads, Rich Razzleberry Polka Dot Grosgrain Ribbon
Punches: Large Oval, Modern Label, ¾ Inch Circle
Sizzix: Lattice Bigz Die, Petals-a-Plenty Textured Impressions Folder (Upcomig Holiday Mini)

Flood

Anyway, I liked how this turned out, I decided it was "worthy" (Mike Myers - Wayne's World, laugh every time I think of him)...Anyway, the ladies in the Card Flood are getting the one above.

Donate

As I started working on the cuts and such, I realized, hey, with a little more bling, this would be great for Danielle. So, there. You see the finished version for the donation at the top of this post. Whatever I send her, I always want to make sure that it is good enough to put in a store to sell. And I figure the fancier, the better.

This one little design helped me complete my list of things to do for the weekend! How cool is that. Now, I have to do laundry. That's no fun, eh?

I tried my hardest to keep from sponging. I have realized that I almost NEVER make a card with sponging. I need a new gig! But I just couldn't help myself on this card. It screamed at me...SPONGE ME NOW...I NEED A LITTLE MORE GRUNGE. I did tone it down in most of the cards. I'm making progress (wink).

So there you have it. It's evolution. I started with the expectation of making ONE card for a challenge. Ended up making 20, very similar cards!

Enjoy your weekend!

Warm Little Sweetness

I must admit that I have become quite fond of making little bitty sweaters.   It all started on a recent trek to India traveling for business. I needed to carry just enough yarn to keep my busy bee hands occupied during the evenings in my hotel room. There are just so many hats a person can make, right?  Anyway, having limited quantities of yarn, I decided to give a small sweater a go.  This is the first one I created. I had just the perfect little buttons to add! (It really is amazing what one might find in their cosmetic bag) I love it.  This sweater is also featured on the Pinque Peacock blog   since I used her buttons.  (Go visit and see the buttons up close) This makes the sweater a really one of a kind project! This next one is perfect for a little preemie.  It's so tiny, but features a great big snowflake! Close up of the snowflake…. I also sewed on one of the StampinUp! Frosted Finishes Embellishments.  I think it finished it off nice
