Happy New Year

Got the following from my friend, Paola: **Recipe for a Happy New Year** (Anonymous) Take twelve fine, full-grown months; See that these are thoroughly free from old memories of bitterness, rancor and hate, cleanse them completely from every clinging spite; Pick off all specks of pettiness and littleness; In short, see that these months are freed from all the past—have them fresh and clean as when they first came from the great storehouse of Time. Cut these months into thirty or thirty-one equal parts. Do not attempt to make up the whole batch at one time (so many persons spoil the entire lot this way) but prepare one day at a time. Into each day put equal parts of faith, patience, courage, work (some people omit this ingredient and so spoil the flavor of the rest), hope, fidelity, liberality, kindness, rest (leaving this out is like leaving the oil out of the salad dressing— don’t do it), prayer, meditation, and one well-selected resolution. Put in about one teaspoonful of good spirit

Another 2010 Calendar

So....what I was doing with all the photos was making a calendar for my husband's parents and his siblings for 2010. Here's an overview...I'll post the individual calendar pages in an upcoming post as a slideshow (without the photos...since they are posted in a previous post). What a fun project. I made several extra sets (without the photos) so that I could pass them on to a few friends. In just a few short hours, it'll be 2010. What are you going to do? We are considering going to see Sherlock Holmes (aren't we an exciting pair?)

My Dearest Friend

...heard news this morning that no mother ever wants to hear. Ever. Her middle son, Lance, died suddenly this morning. Right now, there's no explanation. His 5 year old son found him. He was 28. This is a picture at of Lance at his sister, Fawn's, wedding. And here are a couple I snagged from Facebook. I feel so sad and numb. What do I say to a friend when I know deep down in my soul that I have no idea how horrible and helpless this must feel? Remembering that dumb prank earlier this year doesn't even scratch the surface for what my dear friend, Jean, and her family must be experiencing.
<-------I'll be so late on this. But eventually it WILL be here. Sausage Ball Recipe - 1 lb sausage (in the tube...ick). I use hot and spicy but there are all sorts of others like sage, country, Italian. - 1.5 cups Bisquick or something similar (but not pancake mix) - 1 cup shredded Cheddar (I use extra sharp, but it can be mixed with other favs like Swiss, Gouda, etc...I've done that before and it's excellent. Some cheeses like Monteray or Gouda make it a bit creamier) Preheat oven to 375. or 400, depending on how late you are getting these in the oven in time for the soirre! Mix it all together well. Squish it through your fingers. It's fun, really. Main thing to notice (after you clean your hands)---> If you plunge your finger in the giant ball, it doesn't come back covered with ick. (not too sticky)...conversely, if it looks dry or crumbly, add more sausage and cheese. You want to be able to form a good solid ball that is neither sticky nor dry. Roll in s

Merry Christmas

Old Family Photos

One of the things I've been working on (besides shopping and getting ready for our little party on Christmas Eve, is playing around with some of Dave's family photos. Dave playing in the snow. He was 12. Linda and Marion are Dave's aunts. This is a picture at his Uncle Bud's wedding...I believe his mom said she was taking the photo. Diane at camp. I think this picture is a hoot, because...well, check out her pants! This is Dave's Dad, Jack. Enjoying reading, one of his all time favorite activities. Dave and Earl. Earl is Dave's cousin...and his BFF. (of course he would never describe it that way, but all us women...we know.) He is the cousin that we always go hiking with. I laugh out loud every time I see this shot of Earl, because his "stance" ... just describes him in a nutshell, even today. Dave clad in T-Ball armour. In this shot, he needs to grow into his feet, don't you think?

More Old Family Photos

A few more pictures from the family archives.... This is a picture of Dave's brother and sister at the inlet enjoying the sun and surf. Isn't this adorable? Diane, Dave's sister looking oh, so....Elly Mae! I can see why Dave was able to get away with so much mischief as a child, can't you? This is Dave, showing off a new catch! (Later those frogs he caught...actually DID turn into princesses...) A picture of Dave's pregnant sister (pregnant with her oldest) and his mother. Dave's mom and dad. This was a popular tree to have pictures taken in front of, because there are several during autumn of different years in front of this same colorful foliage. And lastly, at Christmas, a gang of family children. Dave is in the middle of the second row and his eldest brother, looking oh, so bored is the fella on the right. Earl and Danny, his cousins are also in the picture. Dave's sister is looking down (on the left), and Dave's sister (the same one with the h

Weeeee......Snow!

Just in time for Christmas Here are a few shots of Dave and me as we were having fun clearing snow from our driveway and walkway after a 36 hour snowfall that left an easy 24 inches of puffy cold bliss. And this is what 24 inches of snow looks like! We had fun moving the snow. Thank goodness that it snowed and stopped without any of the rain/snow combination, which would have made it more like chopping and moving chunks of ice.

Move It

My dear friend, Paola, is hosting a nicely challenging swap. The objective - construct a card that moves. So, with the help of a few stamps, I made what I'm referring to as the "Many Thanks" wheel. At first I constructed it without the flowers, but when looking at it, it looked plain and uninteresting. I have a tin of flowers on my craft table ... played around with them. And there you have it...the final set.

Swedish Winter Wishes

Well, I'm not really sure if this is Swedish or not, but it really reminds me of pergamano and other designs from the land of....Swedes? Uh, anyway, the last few posts (all the Christmas cards) were cards that I and a few other folks did at my house last Sunday (Dec 5). Oh, and I'll really try to stop with silly puns. In the meantime, Ho Ho....yeah. Ho. Here is an alternate repeating the background stamp as the main image:

Giant Flake of a....

Well, you fill in the blank. In the meantime, feast your eyes on this card. It was one of the easiest cards to put together. Well, I have probably said that before, but it really was.

Peace on Earth

Wouldn't you like to venture into a forest with trees like this? It's like a walking into a wintery fantasy. Now if only I could wish up some twinkle lights and some warm cocoa...

Meet Me Under the Mistletoe...

...And I'll hand you one of these. Oh, and maybe a kiss, but you better be 5'10" tall, dark hair, a 5 o-clock shadow, and beautiful hazel eyes. And most importantly, your name better be Dave.

A Different Kind of Ornament

This sort of ornament is one that travels the land...from one house to another. It offers a warm hello, it brings good cheer, and it won't break.

2010 Calendar Swap

I hosted a swap to create a calendar for 2010, with each calendar page measuring 4.25 x 8.5. The above slideshow represents the contributions and my calendar for next year. I still haven't decided where it will go...I have a spot above my craft table that would be perfect, but maybe I'll take it to work...my cubicle (eh...stall) could use some beauty! And this turned out to be a beautiful calendar. Here are the contributors: January - Gael February - Debbie March - Jessica April - Kate May - Kate June - Karn July - Genetta August - Liz September - Paola October - Me November - Genetta December - Jessica Three folks took two spots and were lucky enough to get two! Anyway, they did a great job and I'm definitely going to do this again next year!

Welcome?

What a surprise! Our first snow of the season arrived without warning. I feel a hush and talk in whispers as the large, soft flakes fall...

Mmmmm....Salad

I went to a vendor conference with a couple colleagues and one of the highlights of the day was the delicious salad and vegetables I had at lunch. Is anyone else hungry now?
